Doctoral Consortium Chair: Dr. S.Nefti-Meziani (Informatics Research Institute, University of Salford)

The deadline for submissions to the NLDB 2007 Doctoral Consortium is 22nd February 2007

This year, the 12th international Conference on Natural Language Applications to Information Systems (NLDB 2007) is organizing a Doctoral Consortium to encourage PhD students, who are studying aspects of Natural Language Processing related to information systems, to meet and discuss their research in a relaxed environment, under the guidance of leading Natural Language Processing, Computer science and Information Systems academics. Contributions are welcome in all topics covered by NLDB07 (please see www.nldb.org).

The Consortium will take place at CNAM (Paris) on 26th  June 2007. The Doctoral Consortium will provide students, in early as well as advanced stages of their doctoral studies, an opportunity to share their research with peers and researchers in their field. Additionally, it will provide the opportunity to meet and network with other doctoral students and researchers and to initiate new research projects or develop their network of research colleagues.

The Consortium is limited to 15 students who will be mentored by leading academics in Natural Language Processing to Information systems and Computer Sciences.

In order to attend the Consortium students must prepare a  research proposal of their work, this should not exceed 8 pages. Their proposals must be submitted with a letter of recommendation, confirming that their home institution will be prepared to cover their attendance costs should they be selected to attend the Consortium.

The selection criteria for the consortium are quality of the proposal and relevance of the research to the field of Natural Language Processing related to Information Systems.  The Doctoral Consortium chair will assign each submission to two members of the NLDB review committee who will provide the relevant feedback, and will be retained within one of the conference tracks if judged of an acceptable quality. The doctoral consortium submissions are accepted only in NLDB formats.

For accepted student to participate in the doctoral consortium, and retained paper to appear in the program and in a dedicated doctoral proceedings, the students must agree to attend and present their work. Presentations will be followed by a reception.

Students are expected to cover travel costs to the Consortium. Cost of attendance at the consortium is 100 euros. This will include lunch, reception and the registration fees.
